The Gramophone Allstars (TGA) band was born in 2008 in Barcelona; however, their members are from different parts of Catalonia. The musical proposal of this group is the mixture of ska music and jazz, but also closed styles such as rocksteady, soul and boogaloo. As a consequence, we can find all this musical universe in their concerts. "
In the same year that the band is born their first long-play, entitled Just delightin’… (Silver Bullets, 2008) appears. All along its twelve tracks – eight of them are own compositions and the rest are covers – we can listen to the main styles practiced by Jamaican musicians during the sixties: ska, ska-jazz, rocksteady, reggae and a bit of soul and latin stuff.
Although we are talking about a young band, their members have a long experience in the Jamaican music scene all around Catalonia. However, they have experience in other music styles such as jazz, fusion, rock, pop and funk.
SIMBIOSI (Liquidator Music 2010)
Jazz and Jamaican music blend together in Simbiosi, the second album of the Catalan band The Gramophone Allstars and is published by Liquidator.
TGA is a band of young talents lead by saxophonist Genis Bou in which vocalist Judit Neddermann and double bass player Vic Moliner excel with their performances. The album also benefits from two exceptional collaborations by Joan Diaz and Jon Robles, established musicians in the Spanish Jazz scene.
In Simbiosi we will find from the band’s own compositions to references and versions of Soul and Jazz classics. All the members of the band deliberatly recorded the album playing simultaneously in the studio, thus allowing a certain degree of improvisation to take part in the songs.
As an homage to the vynil, Simbiosis is divided in two main sides. The first section is called Aromes Jamaicanes; Ska and Reggae engage with Soul, Funk, Latin and Bogaloo. However it is in Atmosferes Jazzistiques, where we find the singularity of this album; improvisation, sophisticated harmonies, refined arrangements and electryfing solos bring this second section closer to Jazz.
